Tram Nguyen
Co-Executive Director
Tram Nguyen is a prominent activist and community leader, currently serving as a Partner at Democracy Partners. She is also the Co-Executive Director of New Virginia Majority, an organization she co-founded in 2007. In her role, she leads initiatives focused on civic engagement, community organizing, advocacy, and leadership development, particularly aimed at enhancing the political participation of marginalized communities in Virginia.
Under her leadership, New Virginia Majority has successfully registered nearly 300,000 new voters and mobilized over 4 million door-to-door outreach efforts, significantly increasing voter turnout among Black and brown populations. Her work addresses critical issues such as democracy, criminal justice reform, immigrants' rights, climate change, and economic justice, emphasizing the interconnectedness of social, racial, and economic issues.12
Before her tenure at New Virginia Majority, Tram Nguyen was involved in disaster response and recovery efforts, including her work with the World Trade Center Rescue and Recovery Program and managing emergency services for Vietnamese immigrants affected by Hurricane Katrina. She has also held advisory roles in health policy and served on various boards, including the Meyer Foundation and the Institute for Women’s Policy Research.123
Tram is an alumna of Barnard College and has participated in several fellowships aimed at promoting leadership among women of color in social justice.12
