Xuezhao Lan is a machine intelligence investor, with a strong background in human psychology. Lan has a PhD in psychology from the University of Michigan and an MA in statistics from the same university. Additionally, she has held the position of post-doc fellow at Harvard University.

Lan is a founding and managing partner at Basis Set Ventures, where she invests in technology startups. Before that, she held various board member and seed investor positions in companies like Workstream, Path Robotics, Inc., Ergeon, and Rasa, among others. Her skills as a statistics instructor has enabled her to teach advanced statistics at the doctoral level.

Before venturing into investing, Lan held the position of head of corporate development strategy at Dropbox, where she excelled in developing strategies to guide corporate investment decisions. Prior to this, she was an engagement manager (M&S/TMT) at McKinsey & Company, where she provided management consulting services to companies in various sectors such as media and telecommunications.

Given her experience, Lan has become an angel investor to companies in tech fields such as AI and Upkeep, among others. Furthermore, she founded EscalaKid, an educational program for children, and has also held a summer intern position at Siemens and the United Nations in New York.
