With roots in rural Kentucky, Vicki's passion for learning was nurtured on a small farm, shaping her commitment to empowering students.

Through a career spanning over four decades, Vicki has held significant positions including teacher, superintendent of schools, state chief of basic and higher education, nonprofit CEO, and director of K-12 education at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, among others.

She has a diverse educational background, including a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in International Leadership and Educational Leadership and Management, a Master of Arts (M.A.) in School Psychology, and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Elementary Education and Special Education.

Vicki has been recognized for her contributions to education with honorary doctorates from various institutions.
