It operates through four segments: Financial & Risk, Legal, Tax & Accounting, and Intellectual Property & Science. I worked in the Intellectual Property & Science segment which offers intellectual property and scientific information, and decision support tools and services that enable governments, academia, publishers, corporations, and law firms to develop and deliver innovations. The company also operates Reuters, which provides real-time multimedia news and information services to newspapers, television and cable networks, radio stations, and websites. Thomson Reuters is a publicly traded multinational corporation.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Sales, I managed a global sales team consisting of Sales Directors and Strategic Account Managers selling patent and trademark workflow solutions.  I personally led an aggressive international expansion using my language skills in sales and negotiations.  I secured over $23M in multi-year committed contracts and grew the business from $52M to $97M.

Customers were Fortune Global 500 companies from sectors such as heavy industry, manufacturing, software, consumer electronics, FMCG / CPG, pharmaceuticals and telecom and included among others:

Reporting to the Managing Director of Thomson CompuMark I led a direct sales team in a B2B market covering Europe, Middle East and Africa. Products included trademark searching, trademark watching and online workflow management.  Brought in to complete a sales turnaround and effect a restructuring of the sales team, I implemented a high-performance culture and led the team to surpass sales objectives for the first time in 2 years.

AdLink Media was purchased by HiMedia in 2010.  HiMedia is an online media company that provides on-line advertising, Internet publishing and electronic payment solutions in France and internationally. The company offers Internet advertising network services, including marketing of advertising space of websites and mobile sites on the basis of cost per mille (CPM), cost per click (CPC), cost per lead (CPL), cost per acquisition (CPA), and cost per view (CPV); brokerage services under opt-in email addresses and opt-in mobile telephone numbers; and customer relationship advisory and advertising creation services, as well as advisory services in mobile marketing. It also provides e-payment solutions, which comprise a micro-payment platform and e-wallet services. In addition, the company offers website publishing services, such as production and animation of content for Internet users; content syndication services; and implementation of participatory and community tools. The company serves website publishers, media agencies, advertisers, and Internet users. 

Brought in to effect a turnaround of loss-making companies and a restructuring of the organization.  I reported to a board member and had P&L and general management responsibility for the group’s portfolio of UK media businesses, which included premium online ad sales, an affiliate marketing network, a secure e-payment solutions provider, permission based email marketing and mobile marketing solutions.

My team included experts in digital advertising sales, ad operations, campaign management and publisher relations.  We sold to advertising agencies including digital agencies representing clients for large digital ad buys.  I participated in the growth of ad exchanges and ad networks and the evolution of demand-side platforms (DSP) and supply-side platforms (SSP) for inventory aggregation and yield optimization.

I implemented a new corporate strategy and oversaw the largest digital ad sale in 2 years – over $1M.

Operative Media operates as an advertising business management company that provides software solutions to media and advertising agencies worldwide. Its Operative.One SaaS based platform integrates business processes and systems that enable organizations to package, sell, traffic, manage, optimize, and collect revenue on digital advertising products.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Board Member, I led a direct sales team in B2B sales of enterprise software and outsourcing solutions for digital advertising.  Products included a cloud-based digital advertising SaaS workflow solution and ad operations / ad trafficking / campaign management managed services via on offshore team in India.  Responsible for business development, recruitment, sales training and all international sales (outside of North America).  I established partnerships and personally sold first enterprise solutions in Europe including first sale outside UK.

Ovid Technologies, subsidiary of Wolters Kluwer Health, provides medical information solutions for clinicians, researchers, librarians, and other healthcare professionals in behavioral science, basic science, and humanity and technology fields. It offers OvidSP, an online search and discovery platform that enables users to access and work with online journals, books, and databases from publishers; Nursing@Ovid, a nursing and allied health portal for practice, education, research, and administration; and OvidMD, a clinical tool that provides answers to clinical questions based on relevant content. The company also provides training, software tools and technical support services. It serves hospitals, clinics, other medical institutions, academic, and corporate institutions through indirect distributors in North America and internationally.

Brought in to turn around a problem region, I reported to the Vice President International Sales and managed 3 sales offices, 6 direct reports and a network of 10 distributors - $21M in sales. I was the top worldwide performer in sales and margin, surpassing goal 5 years in a row. Only Sales Director to increase margin every year (+ 5.4%). Personally closed several multiyear deals over $1M; especially effective in selling to hospitals and hospital consortia. Selected for Wolters Kluwer ‘Top Talent’ program.

Managing the indirect distribution channel I led yearly negotiations for distribution contracts. Working closely with marketing and marketing services I helped to professionalize our customer communications.

Regional Sales Director Southern Europe - WK Health

Wolters Kluwer provides information, software, and services to professionals in various business fields. It operates in four divisions: Legal and Regulatory, Tax & Accounting, Health, and Financial & Compliance Services. The Legal and Regulatory division offers content, solutions, software, and services in the areas of law, business, and regulatory compliance to lawyers and law firm professionals, corporate law departments, business compliance professionals, corporate legal counsel, legal educators, universities, libraries, and government agencies. The Health division offers medical, nursing, and allied health information resources in electronic media, book, and journal formats to professionals and students in medicine, nursing, allied health, medical libraries, and hospitals. 

Reporting to the Managing Director I created new online businesses from scratch, preparing the business plans, marketing plans and product plans for B2B websites including ecommerce. I designed and launched a tender process for a pan-European web design contract and negotiated all pricing and contract terms with digital agency Grey Interactive (Grey Group / WPP).  I managed the digital agency, external IT firm and a 6 person staff.  We launched new websites for legal, tax and human resource professionals in France, Germany and Holland.

European Director of Marketing and Business Development

I was a founder of Sagemark, a web development and consulting start-up company providing website design, SEO, online advertising and international marketing consulting.  

I handled all sales and consulting work, determined corporate strategy and managed a web development team. SEO, digital advertising and website promotion resulted in 30% average increase in monthly visits. I increased EBITDA by an average of 35% annually and sold the company at a profit to an advertising group.

Motorola Solutions (formerly Motorola Inc.) designs, manufactures, and sells communications infrastructure, devices, system software, and applications. The company operates in two segments, Government and Enterprise. The Government segment provides public safety communications systems, professional and commercial two-way communication systems, devices, system software, and applications. This segment serves government, state and local public safety, first-responder agencies, and municipalities, as well as commercial and industrial customers who operate private communications networks and manage a mobile workforce. The Enterprise segment offers enterprise-grade mobile computers and tablets; laser / imaging / radio frequency identification based data capture products; wireless local area network; and integrated digital enhanced network infrastructure, software, and applications. This segment serves customers in retail, hospitality, transportation and logistics, manufacturing, energy and utilities, education, and healthcare industries, as well as warehouse and distribution centers through distributors, value-added resellers, and independent software vendors. 

Reporting to the Managing Director, I had P&L responsibility for EMEA, $98 M turnover. Products included digital two-way communications systems with advanced encryption, encrypted telephones, devices and system software.  Managed 4 person staff and annual budget of $2 M.  Only Business Manager in group to surpass sales target.  Developed and implemented new distribution strategy targeting Eastern Europe.

Motorola Solutions

Business Manager, Digital Systems

Recruited from USA to invigorate sales in French market, $60M business.  Reporting to the Managing Director, I was responsible for all marketing, strategy and distribution partnerships for French operations including the sponsorship of the Motorola Cycling Team. Implemented marketing plan for both direct sales and distribution partners.  Launched an aggressive partnering initiative increasing market share by 10%. Initiated successful one-day promotion resulting in $2 M in sales.  Successfully launched extensive new product line via direct and indirect channels.
