Michael Freemantle is a distinguished science writer and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry with a rich and extensive background in the field of chemistry.
After completing a post-doctoral research fellowship at Oxford University, Michael transitioned to the chemical industry for two years before embarking on a teaching career that spanned from 1971 to 1985, where he imparted knowledge at various levels in the UK and internationally.
In 1985, he took on the role of Information Officer and editor of Chemistry International at IUPAC, followed by a significant tenure as the European Science Editor and Senior Correspondent at Chemical & Engineering News, the reputable weekly news magazine of the American Chemical Society from 1994 to 2007.
Subsequently, Michael was honored with the position of Science Writer in Residence at Queen's University Belfast and Queens University Ionic Liquid Laboratories until 2010, where he continued to contribute significantly to the field.
With an impressive literary portfolio, Michael is the author, co-author, or editor of more than ten books, each delving into the realms of chemistry and its related subjects. Some of his recent works include 'The Chemists’ War: 1914-1918', 'Gas! GAS! Quick, boys! How Chemistry Changed the First World War', and 'An Introduction to Ionic Liquids'.
