Mauricio Salas is a highly skilled and experienced lawyer with over 20 years of practice, specializing in dispute resolution, environmental law, and international trade. He is currently the head of litigation at BLP, a top law firm in Costa Rica, leading a team of experts in one of the region's largest dispute resolution practices. Mr. Salas is recognized as one of Costa Rica's "top five dispute resolution lawyers" by Who´s Who Legal 2018, and his outstanding work has been acknowledged by prestigious publications such as IFLR 1000, Chambers and Partners, Legal 500, Who's Who Legal, and Latin Lawyer 250, among others. His academic background, which includes natural sciences, has propelled his dedication to environmental matters, assisting leading environmental NGOs in the country on regulatory matters. Mr. Salas is also active in academia and currently teaches international law at Lead University.
Throughout his career, Mr. Salas has interned at the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization, served as a member of the Board of Visitors of the Organization for Tropical Studies, and is the comptroller of Asociación Costa Rica Por Siempre. In addition, he is a member of several prestigious arbitration commissions, including the International Conciliation and Arbitration Center (CICA-AMCHAM), the arbitration commission of the national chapter of the ICC, Club Español de Arbitraje, and the Latin American Compliance Group.
