Abergel is a Canadian national who moved to Japan to study the country's culinary arts. Upon returning to Canada, he honed his skills in various Japanese restaurants before relocating to Hong Kong in 2009. In the same year, he founded Yardbird with his business partner, Lindsay Jang.
Yardbird, an izakaya-style restaurant, attracted a massive following, with its innovative dishes that fuse traditional Japanese ingredients with contemporary cooking techniques.
Apart from Yardbird, Abergel owns several other successful restaurants in Hong Kong, including Ronin and Sunday’s Grocery. He has won numerous awards for his contributions to the culinary industry, including the prestigious Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Tastemaker Award in 2019.
