Mark Avnet is the Senior Director of Learning & Development at IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau).1 In this role, which he has held since July 2022, he strategizes, creates, and updates instructor-led and eLearning courses for IAB member organizations.1 These programs cover a range of topics, including digital fundamentals, data, programmatic advertising, audio, digital video, and gaming.1 He also develops industry knowledge courses such as Introduction to Retail Media, Streaming TV, and Driving Business with Data Science, as well as certification courses in Digital Media Buying and Digital Media Sales.1
Avnet has over 25 years of experience in media, technology, advertising, innovation design, entertainment, marketing, and education.23 Before joining IAB, he founded Converging Arts, a professional development consultancy, in April 2018.1 Converging Arts offers workshops and coaching in communication, management, team, and leadership skills.13 He was also a Senior Business Advisor at the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center Network from March 2020 to July 2022, where he provided guidance to small business owners.1
Earlier in his career, Avnet was the Head of Learning & Development at 360i (dentsu) from 2011 to 2018, where he founded and led the L&D and Thought Leadership group.1 He also has experience in academia, having served as a Professor and Head of the Creative Technology track at VCU Brandcenter from 2008 to 2011 and as Chair and Professor of Communications and Information Design at Sage Colleges from 2005 to 2007.1 Additionally, he founded the New England Hypnotherapy Center in 1999, focusing on hypnosis for various issues.1
Avnet's education includes a BA from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, attendance at St. Lawrence University, faculty status at VCU Brandcenter, an MA + (abd PhD) in Media Psychology from Fielding Graduate University (2007-2012), and an MPS from New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program.1 He holds certifications in areas such as digital media buying and selling, programmatic trading, ethical advertising, hypnotherapy, DiSC facilitation, situational leadership, and behavioral economics.1
