Kris Kilian
Scientia Associate Professor and ARC Future Fellow - School of Materials Science and Engineering; School of Chemistry
Dr. Kris Kilian is a distinguished scientist whose research focuses on understanding how the chemistry of materials impacts mammalian cell behavior.
With a background in Mechanochemistry in hydrogels, dynamic soft materials, high-throughput biomaterials discovery, nano- and micro-engineered materials, model tumour microenvironments, cell and tissue engineering, Dr. Kilian's work integrates nano- and micro-fabrication techniques to mimic the properties of cells and tissues.
He aims to develop synthetic models to explore fundamental questions in cell biology and leverage the findings for designing biomaterials with clinical applications, such as guiding cell differentiation and de-differentiation.
Dr. Kilian holds a PhD in Chemistry from UNSW, a MS in Chemistry from the University of Washington, and a BS in Chemistry from the University of Washington.
He has held prestigious positions including Scientia Fellow at UNSW, Associate Professor of Bioengineering, and Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
His academic journey includes being a NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Chicago, a Postgraduate Student at UNSW, and roles as Methods Developer at Rosetta Inpharmatics and Laboratory Assistant at Spacelabs Medical.
