Jianjun Cheng is a distinguished Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, and Bioengineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, holding the prestigious Willett Faculty Scholar position.
He serves as an Associate Editor for Biomaterials Science at the Royal Society of Chemistry and is a respected Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and the American Chemical Society - Division of Polymer Chemistry.
With a robust academic background, Jianjun Cheng completed his Postdoctoral studies in Chemical Engineering at the esteemed Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Materials Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Prior to that, he pursued a Master of Science (MS) in Chemistry at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and obtained his Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry from Nankai University.
Jianjun Cheng's expertise spans a wide array of disciplines including biomaterials, nanomedicine, cancer nanotechnology, polypeptide synthesis and applications, polymer chemistry, and functional polymers.
In addition to his current role at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Jianjun Cheng has held significant positions at various institutions. He served as the Dean of the School of Engineering and Chair Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Westlake University. Previously, he was the Hans Thurnauer Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and held positions as a Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Jianjun Cheng also gained valuable experience as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Langer lab at MIT and as a Senior Scientist at Insert Therapeutics.
