Responsible for the teams that build the software for and run Facebook’s highest QPS services, including TAO, Memcache, McRouter, services that provide real-time indexing, intersecting, high throughput counting, and manage consistency. At this scale, with billions of customers, you know every single day counts.

Director, Core Data Caching and Indexing

Led an organization of 31 teams (~200 people) owning the software development for storage, compute, networking, database, big data, service discovery, authentication, observability, shared services and core libraries.

-  Influenced leadership to adopt company-wide latency OKR and started key project (see the #ExpandTheEdge project below)
-  Influenced leadership to reform compensation, hiring and promotion policies. Twitter now allocates RSU's more efficiently by filling to hit a projected TC (total comp) target
-  Strengthened the voice of individual contributors by inviting representatives to our staff meeting, and serving as the executive liaison to Twitter Architecture Group
-  Helped refine core mission, worked on org- and team-level restructuring
-  Socialized the concept for #ExpandTheEdge, created consensus among the original XFN leads, and launched the project. Todd and others continued to drive this and completed the work after I left. This resulted in big DAU wins outside the U.S. See their summary post below.

Led 5 Platform teams (~ 40 people) responsible for development of core RPC libraries, and approximately 30% of Twitter’s tier-0 services, including listening, routing, authentication, rate-limiting, and service discovery.

-  Restructured teams to improve focus and reduce pager pain
-  Aggressively hired to secure services and reverse attrition
-  Commissioned the Performance Working Group
-  Initiated a traffic routing project to minimize latency to Twitter services
-  Mentored new engineering managers

-  Orchestrated 8 new feature releases per year

-  Went 0 lines of code and minimal team, to product launch in 10 months
-  Maintained better than 4 9’s of availability in all regions with no public service failures
