    Dr. Jelena Rnjak-Kovacina is a Senior Lecturer and Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellow at the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, UNSW Sydney. Her academic journey led her to complete a PhD in Biomedical/Medical Engineering at the University of Sydney, after acquiring a Bachelor of Science in Molecular biology and genetics from the same institution. With a focus on the intersection of biology and engineering, she is dedicated to advancing biomaterials to enhance vascularization and treat cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Rnjak-Kovacina honed her expertise during postdoctoral training in David Kaplan’s group at Tufts University, following her doctoral research in Anthony Weiss' lab at the University of Sydney. Her contributions to the field have garnered recognition, including the prestigious title of NSW Early Career Researcher of the Year in the 2020 NSW Premier's Prizes for Science & Engineering.
