Fiona Stapleton

Fiona Stapleton is a prominent figure in the field of Optometry and Vision Science, currently serving as a Scientia Professor at UNSW Sydney and holding the position of Associate Dean for Enterprise within the Faculty of Science at the same institution.

Professor Stapleton's academic journey includes graduating in Optometry from the University of Cardiff, Wales, and earning her PhD from City University and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. Her research focuses on various areas such as the epidemiology of lens-related disease, ocular microbiology, bacterial resistance, contact lens care systems, and ocular defense mechanisms.

With an impressive publication record that includes over 225 peer-reviewed publications, 19 textbook chapters, and a book on the diagnosis and management of anterior segment disease, Professor Stapleton is actively involved in the academic community.

Aside from her research contributions, Fiona Stapleton is engaged in multiple memberships and executive roles within optometric and scientific organizations. She serves as a regular reviewer for several journals and is part of the international editorial board of four journals.

Professor Stapleton's educational background is diverse, having studied a Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy at City, University of London, a Master of Science at The University of Manchester, and completing her Bachelor of Science in Optometry at Chatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Kanpur University, Kanpur. She has also studied at the University of Melbourne.

Throughout her career, Fiona Stapleton has held various important positions, including being a former Professor at UNSW, Head of School of Optometry and Vision Science at UNSW, a Senior Research Associate at Brien Holden Vision Institute, and a Senior Lecturer at UNSW.
