Faran Saeed
PhD Candidate at Oregon State University
Faran Saeed is an educator and leader who holds a Ph.D. in Language, Equity, and Educational Policy from Oregon State University, a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Louisiana State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Memphis.3 He uses the pronouns he/him/his.23
Currently, Saeed serves as the Director of the Mercile J. Lee Scholars Program.24 Before this role, he was the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he managed global DEI initiatives within the International Division.23 He also directed the Ettihad Cultural Center at Oregon State University, which supports students, faculty, and staff from North African, Middle Eastern, and South Asian communities.23
Saeed's experience includes:
- Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the International Division at the University of Wisconsin-Madison He managed Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging initiatives for over 8000 faculty, staff, and students.3
- Graduate Teaching Assistant at Oregon State University He oversaw the Ettihad Cultural Center, supervised student leaders, managed a $67,000 budget, and implemented an assessment plan for cultural centers.3 He also taught the ED 219 Civil Rights, Social Justice, and Multicultural Education course.13
- Graduate Fellow for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at ACLU He contributed to the organization's nationwide ED&I work and supported the Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer.3

Saeed's commitment to equity and inclusion is shown through his service as the former chair of the IMPACT Conference Board of Directors and as a member of the NASPA leadership team for the Spirituality and Religion Knowledge Community.23 He was also on the Board of Directors of Convergence, a national organization focused on enhancing institutional climates for religious, secular, and spiritual identities, and ActionAid USA.3
Saeed's research interests include Muslim identity development and Islamophobia.14 His work has been featured by ACPA, NASPA, Diversity Abroad, Higher Ed Live, AERA, ASHE, and the Student Affairs Collective.4
