This project is part of the World Economic Forum’s Shaping the Future of Technology Governance: Blockchain and Digital Assets Platform. The key question this initiative aims to explore is: How can we create integrated, inclusive, and sustainable growth of the crypto ecosystem?

Driven by the clear deficit of effective global efforts to shape the conversation on social and environmental impact in practical and actionable terms, and a strong demand signal from governments, companies, and civil society worldwide, the World Economic Forum, in collaboration with CoinDesk, launched the Crypto Impact and Sustainability Accelerator (CISA). It will:

Accelerate progress around energy, social, and governance (ESG) targets for the crypto
ecosystem. Bridge gaps in understanding between the public and private sectors.
Shape a cohesive narrative that highlights how the crypto sector can lead in contributions to ESG.

The Accelerator will achieve its mission through mechanisms designed to address current gaps:



Projects: Deliver multi-stakeholder projects that develop open, collaborative mechanisms that could: create common standards in areas such as ESG metrics; ethnographic research, provide funding for accelerating existing initiatives and/or creating hackathons or development funding opportunities; and expand training and certification programs.


Learning: Capture lessons from projects, drive peer-to-peer learning globally and across sectors, and amplify key insights, tools, and lessons so that relevant stakeholders can engage in ongoing iteration at scale in a multi-chain ecosystem.


Leadership: Create impact opportunities for global leaders to seize, secure commitments to do so, and scale the impact of leading efforts. Elevate the importance of prioritizing social impact as a strategic driver of crypto.

This initiative brings together and builds upon the World Economic Forum's work in ESG Metrics, Blockchain & Digital Assets, and Global Public Goods.

Our winning project for the "White House + Dept of Ed EdPalooza" #ThisIsGrit is an attempt to change the attitudes of students to look beyond grades, intelligence, race, and social economic status as the limit of their potential.

- ThisIsGRIT is a video campaign showcasing stories of extraordinary people, who have faced hurdles, challenges and hardships in pursuing their higher education aspirations.

In the span of 4 weeks, I co-conceived the idea at the Stanford DataJam,
-  recruited and managed a team of amazing developers and designers,
-  built corporate partnerships,
-  sourced powerful moving videos,
-  courted endorsements from world experts on grit and persistence,
-  presented the work at Stanford and at the White House.

Results:
-  We won first place by popular vote at the Stanford Data Jam - hosted by the US Dept of Education.

ThisIsGrit

I use topological data analysis (TDA) to develop new use cases and applications for our clients and presales team. TDA can be thought of as a formal mathematical framework for identifying structure in high dimensional data and doing feature reduction, without making assumptions of linearity or euclidean metric spaces like Principle Component Analysis.

There are also many other exciting applications for TDA, which we are building right now and rolling out in the near future.

Technology stack used: Pandas, Numpy, Scipy, Sklearn, Scikits, IPython Notebook, Iris (proprietary TDA compute engine).

Most recently, I have worked on model validation analysis for peer-to-peer lending, using open data sets to identify and correct systematic error on linear and non parametric models. I also worked on an  industry segmentation example using company fundamental data.

Worked with the talented Layla Oesper and Dr. Simone Dantas on creating and validating a theoretical model for Chromothripsis. Chromothripsis is a proposed new mechanism of mutation observed in certain cancer types, characterized by many shuffling positions and theorized to be a one-off catastrophic event in which the chromosome 'shatters' and a subset of it reassemble.
The goal of the research was to create a graph-theoretic model of the event, use it as a way to describe and quantify the likelihood of certain data sets being identified as Chromothripsis. I contributed to the theoretical aspects, and wrote 2000 lines of python code to explore and test the combinatorial possibilities.

The research was submitted as an abstract to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Genome Informatics conference, where Layla delivered a talk.

Open Innovations (Forum and Technology Show) is an annual international forum that focuses on new technologies and perspectives of the international cooperation on innovations.

The focus of Forum is to provide a platform for discussions, interaction and exchange amongst experts in leading edge technologies, scientists, top-managers from Russian and foreign corporations, startups, and state authorities including top public officials. The international exhibition of high-tech achievements is also part of the Forum.

Forum has been held in Moscow since 2012 with the support of Ministry of Economic Development of Russia. Forum is co-organized by the Moscow City Government, the Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs (Rusnano), Russian Venture Company, Skolkovo Foundation, Vnesheconombank, Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology (FASIE).

Highlights: Designed and operated two 10-week programs of weekly dinners, sounding boards, workshops and pitching practice. Accelerated 6 student teams in each session. Built a mentorship network of local entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. Of the first 6 teams, 5 are still in operation – one (NBA Math Hoops) went on to win an Echoing Green Fellowship, and another (Fanium) relocated to LA with $100,000 in funding.
