Evan Smoller is an individual with a diverse background in public policy, community engagement, and advocacy. Currently an Organizing Intern at Restaurant Opportunities Center-Los Angeles, Evan effectively communicates labor laws to restaurant workers, conducts street outreach, and engages in lobbying efforts with city officials. Holding a Bachelor's degree in Applied Linguistics and a minor in Labor and Workplace Studies from UCLA, Evan has a strong educational foundation. As a former Project Director in IDEAS at UCLA, an undocumented student group, Evan presented vital information on legislation, immigration history, and resources to various audiences.
Evan's passion for public policy and advocacy is evident through his involvement in organizations such as the City of Los Angeles, the Office of California State Senate Majority Leader Bob Hertzberg, and the Office of Los Angeles City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson. With past roles ranging from Legislative Intern to Policy and Communications Intern, Evan has honed his skills in research, communication, and community outreach. Additionally, his experience as a Non-Profit Bruin Development Academy Member at UCLA showcases a commitment to social impact and development.
Driven by a desire to enact meaningful change, Evan is seeking opportunities in public policy, advocacy, and community engagement. With interests in pursuing a Master's in Public Policy to further contribute to areas such as Labor, Housing, Homelessness, Poverty, and Health Disparities, Evan demonstrates a strong commitment to social justice and equity. His background as a Swim Instructor/ Lifeguard at YMCA highlights a dedication to community service and supporting others.
