Devi Parikh is an American computer scientist who was a Research Scientist at Facebook AI Research (FAIR) and is an Assistant Professor in the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech.145 She is known for her work in computer vision and natural language processing.3 Her LinkedIn username is devi-parikh-71613a8.6
Parikh earned a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.35 She was an Assistant Professor in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech from 2013 to 2016.14 From 2009 to 2012, she was a Research Assistant Professor at the Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago (TTIC).14 She has also held visiting positions at Cornell University, University of Texas at Austin, Microsoft Research, MIT, and Carnegie Mellon University.14 As of 2022, Parikh was a research director at Meta.3 However, according to her LinkedIn post, she left Meta in February 2024 after 7.5 years.2
Her research interests include computer vision, AI, natural language processing, embodied AI, human-AI connection, and AI for creativity.15 In 2015, she and her students at Virginia Tech worked on AI for Visual Question Answering (VQA), a technology that allows users to ask questions about pictures.3 In 2017, Parikh published a conversational agent called ParlAI. In 2020, she developed an AI system that generates dance moves in sync with songs. In 2022, Parikh and a team at Meta developed Make-a-Video, a text-to-video AI model based on the diffusion algorithm.3 In September 2024, Parikh helped introduce Emu Video Edit (EVE), a model that sets a new standard in video editing without supervised video editing data.5
