Bodong Li

Bodong Li is a Technology Leader specializing in Robotics and the Internet of Things (IoT) at Saudi Aramco, specifically within the EXPEC Advanced Research Center (ARC). He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and has been recognized for his contributions to the field, including receiving the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) 2020 Regional Award for the Middle East and North Africa.12

In his role at Saudi Aramco, Li focuses on enhancing drilling operations through innovative technologies. He leads projects involving the development of miniaturized sensing platforms and robotics solutions aimed at improving efficiency and reducing costs in drilling operations. His team is responsible for strategic planning and resource allocation to advance robotics and IoT technologies tailored for upstream oil and gas applications.13

Li's work includes managing the entire project lifecycle, from use case development and business justification to research and development, as well as field testing and technology deployment. One of his notable projects is a MEMS-based microchip designed for downhole applications, which has become a vital part of the drilling engineering toolbox.1
