As Business Manager, for the last 3 years, I have managed a team of 4 to support the Birmingham's Safeguarding Adults Board to successfully achieve its Strategic Business Plan goals 2015-2019 to deliver its vision of protecting people with care and support needs from abuse and neglect.

Duties
-  To take lead responsibility for the co-ordination of Birmingham Safeguarding Adults Board's business plan, annual report and work plan

-  To develop the public profile of the Board, utilising all appropriate media and other resources, produce regular bulletins and manage the web site

-  To promote the work of the Birmingham Safeguarding Adults Board to service users, carers and the general public and to develop opportunities for their participation, to ensure that services take account of the views of people with care and support needs and their carers.

-  To oversee the development of new policies and procedures as required in partnership with partner organisations and ensure that these are agreed and implemented.

-  To ensure that all service, policy and procedural developments are person-centred and outcome focused.

-  To analyse and interpret for Birmingham Safeguarding Adults Board data information and guidance relevant to its work.

Responsibilities

-  Managing and directing external facing staff team of four professional outreach officers to engage with stakeholders, patients, residents and children and young people

-   Identifying the strategic relationships across  the new Health & Social Care landscape for the set up phase of the organisation including the CQC, Healthwatch England, NHS Trusts and BCC.

-  Responsibility for the successful delivery of resident engagement and volunteering opportunities including those included in the 2012 Social Care Act for Local HW.

Achievements

-  In the first year which included set up and promotion, supporting the team to fulfil their roles and to have lead on the recruitment of over 40 diverse residents to volunteer with HWB in helping peoples voices to be heard. This includes setting the team on setting up the Enter & View Authorisation programme and the Community Champion and Mystery       Shopping  programmes.

-  Checking Championing and Challenging Commissioning activity especially around Patient voice and ensuring that the most vulnerable H&SC users and residents were being listened to about quality, equality of access and future commissioning intentions.

-  Successfully raising awareness of Healthwatch Birmingham externally and developing trusted links with patient groups, user councils, carers organisations voice and provision, those users facing multiple disadvantage such as the homeless and with engagement staff for H&SC across the city. Over 2000 people made aware of HWB in first year.

-  Lead on Fuel Poverty training (NEA) and delivery of home based support

-  Being an important point of contact and advise for agencies, stakeholders and residents in a period of intense change and funding cuts.

-  Supporting the continuation of community stakeholders with the local WMP Neighbourhood Policing teams, including a training partnership with Sparkhill Foodbank and improved Tasking meeting with the Somali Community on the Stratford Rd.

-  Providing leadership to the Sparkbrook Community First Panel in its conception and first year, successfully uniting the ward with joint aims for green, youth and safer neighbourhood projects

Responsibilities

-  To facilitate the voices of the Sparkhill community to be heard and responded to in statutory and community decision making at ward, constituency and city level.

-  To work in partnership with the NHS, West Midlands Police, Education and other LA services to achieve a healthier, safer and greener city as part of a city wide neighbourhood LSP improvement project

Achievements

-  Using community feedback to produce a Neighbourhood Improvement and Engagement Plan with key multi agency involvement.

-  Involvement on a Home Office award winning PREVENT steering group to support the delivery of the local anti-extremism programme.

-  Management of a programme of Improvement across 3 Neighbourhoods with 15 young Environmental Apprentices whom I supported to work with the local police teams, park rangers and environmental officers to support them to improve green and residential areas from Graffiti, fly tipping and anti-social behaviour.

Responsibilities

-  Managing a city wide Fuel Poverty project funded by BG Energy Trust

-  Delivering a programme of outreach work via community events and presentations

-  Advising clients on Fuel Debt and general debt advice

Achievements

-  Putting Fuel Poverty at the heart of Ladywood Child Poverty Project

-  Securing funds for and delivering Best Deal (Ofgem project) in 12 family and disability support settings

-  Supporting 80 clients to successfully access BG Energy Trust funds

Responsibilities

-  Manager of an innovative ESF/NRF project to support resident in core city neighbourhoods into employment and training.

-  Organising innovative and bespoke outreach events and programmes

-  Line managing and monitoring 9 members of Outreach Team

-  Presentation of all aspects of project delivery, in adherence to European (ESF) and Local Government guidance

Achievements

-  Graduate Fair for BME / Newly arrived communities with Emergency and Armed Services, Universities, Engineering Companies and Health and Social care

-  Led Job centre Staff to implement Innovative engagement processes based on Street Advisor Project

-  400 local people successfully accessing training and/or gaining employment

Outreach Team Leader

- Undertaking a ‘census’ of the community across the West Midlands

-  Final delivery and reporting to Comic Relief for the final year of their funding including family support project

Part of small specialist team to work on a number of research and consultancy projects for Third and Statutory Sector clients. Including a Community Facilities Mapping Study for Aston Pride NDfC. The study explored and mapped the faith, leisure, health, educational, employment and open spaces in the area to allow for a more equitable and sustainable delivery of community facilities.
