Summary
Maya Lilly, a talented producer of feature documentaries, TV docuseries, and short-form videos, has made it her mission to tell stories that inspire a better world and spur her audience to take action. Her focus is primarily on creating content related to the climate crisis, viewed through a lens of intersectionality. Maya is known for her work with The Years Project, where she creates original content for its digital arm alongside its Emmy-winning climate change show, Years of Living Dangerously. In 2020, their videos were viewed over 1 billion times, marking the highest viewership in the environmental and climate space.
Maya started her career in feature documentaries and was most recently a producer of Generation Wealth, Amazon's first theatrically distributed documentary. This project was created using the same team that worked alongside acclaimed director Lauren Greenfield (Queen of Versailles, Always' Like a Girl commercial), and Maya worked alongside the director for over six years on multiple other projects. Her expertise also extends to docuseries production, with BET/Seven Bucks Productions' Finding Justice, exec produced by none other than The Rock's production company, being a nominee for the International Documentary Association (IDA).
Maya has also made her mark as the producer of Resist (YouTube Originals/Pulse Films), an activist series focusing on defunding the police and the founder of the Black Lives Matter movement. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from New College of Florida and a Master of Arts in Environmental Security and Peace from the United Nations.
A performing arts school kid, Maya studied at School for Creative and Performing Arts (Cincinnati) and New World School of the Arts (Miami). Moreover, she was one of just 20 people who were chosen to study Acting at Juilliard, training that kindled her passion for unraveling great stories. Notably, Maya is often seen on-camera narrating original content she produces.
Maya's extensive professional expertise includes executive production, story production, field production, research production, and video direction, to name only a few. She also has experience as a playwright/actress, campaign coordinator, and even a certified and licensed massage therapist!
