Meet Ranjan Pal, an accomplished electrical engineer and computer scientist with expertise in cybersecurity, information privacy management, decision, and data analysis. As a junior faculty member in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department at the University of Michigan, he is part of the Network, Communication, and Information Systems (NCIS) research group. Additionally, he is a faculty affiliate of the Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS). Pal holds a PhD in computer science from the University of Southern California Viterbi School of Engineering, where he designed and analyzed a groundbreaking model for improving network security via cyber-insurance. During his doctoral studies, he received the Provost Fellowship at USC, the school's highest graduate student honor. He continued to do postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge and the University of Southern California.

Pal's research has been published in numerous academic journals and has been covered by popular press, including Forbes, The Economic Times, and The Times of India. He also teaches summer courses in game theory at prestigious institutions such as the IITs and the IIMs. Pal is an Associate Editor of the ACM Transactions on MIS, consults for the cyber-assurance industry, and is a member of several professional societies, including the IEEE, ACM, American Mathematical Society, INFORMS, SIAM, and the Game Theory Society.

Pal has had a wealth of experience working and researching at various institutions worldwide, including visiting research positions at the University of Cambridge, Princeton University, Tsinghua University, King's College London, Deutsche Telekom Labs, Ciena Corporation, the University of Helsinki, and Aalborg University. Notably, before joining the academia, Pal worked as a formal (VLSI/EDA) verification engineer at Cadence Design Systems in India.

In his leisure time, Pal enjoys traveling, watching movies, listening to music, reading novels, playing blackjack, sipping coffee, and exploring the world. As a Bengali from Calcutta, he takes pride in being from the intellectual capital of India and the birthplace of luminaries in various fields.
