Zelda Roland, a Yale alumna with a BA in History of Art and Literature and a PhD in History of Art, Film & Media, has made remarkable contributions in the field of prison education. She is the Founding Director of the Yale Prison Education Initiative at Dwight Hall, pioneering the provision of Yale classes and programs to incarcerated individuals in Connecticut. Under her leadership, YPEI enabled incarcerated students to earn Yale credit for the first time. With a visionary approach, Zelda also assumed the role of the inaugural Director of the University of New Haven's Prison Education Program, facilitating incarcerated students to pursue degrees while incarcerated as well as supporting their reintegration post-release. Notably, she established a unique Fellowship program offering professional development and mentorship for college-in-prison alumni from various programs.
