Xian Xu is an accomplished engineering leader known for defining long-term strategic visions and steering teams to success. With a diverse background, Xian has a proven track record of building teams from the ground up and revitalizing existing ones. A polyglot with rich expertise in data, experimentation, machine learning, and foundational server infrastructure.

Xian's professional experiences encompass various domains such as messaging systems, service infrastructure, ads serving and ranking infrastructure, experimentation frameworks, data collection, ETL processes, query language constructions, search optimization including location and local search, web crawling, big data analytics, and streaming processing.

Education-wise, Xian holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University at Buffalo and a B.E. in Automatic Control from the University of Science and Technology of China.

Currently serving as a Software Engineering Manager at WhatsApp Inc., Xian has previously held key positions at renowned tech companies including Facebook as a Staff Software Engineer, Twitter as a Tech Lead, and Microsoft in roles such as Development Lead and Software Development Engineer for the MSN Core Platform. Earlier in Xian's career, roles as a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant at the State University of New York at Buffalo laid the groundwork for future success.
