Tony Armstrong
President & CEO at IU Ventures
Tony Armstrong is the President & CEO of IU Ventures, a 501(c)(3) affiliate of Indiana University.15 In his role, Armstrong facilitates collaboration between Indiana University faculty, students, staff, alumni, and partners to foster the creation and growth of high-potential startup ventures.1 He helps guide IU's efforts to support new business ventures, transfer IU-developed technologies to the marketplace, and build partnerships with businesses and universities.235 He established both the Innovate Indiana Fund and the Indiana University Philanthropic Venture Fund.145
Armstrong was also appointed assistant vice president in the Indiana University Office of the Vice President for Government Relations and Economic Engagement in August 2008.3 He works with the Vice President for Government Relations and Economic Engagement to further the economic development and job-creation goals of the university, especially in the health and life sciences sector.3
Before his current roles, Armstrong served as Executive Director of the IU Office of Engagement and as Associate Director of the Office of Technology Commercialization at IU’s Advanced Research and Technology Institute.235 He also served as the Executive Director and General Counsel of the Indiana 21st Century Research and Technology Fund, where he managed a $140 million fund for early-stage investments and cultivated high-tech industries.23
Armstrong is a native of Madison, Indiana, and holds a B.S. from the IU Kelley School of Business, a J.D. from the IU School of Law – Bloomington, and an M.B.A. from Butler University.25
