My role as a founding teacher has afforded me many opportunities for professional development even beyond classroom instruction. I've had the opportunity to influence policy decisions while working on the scheduling and grading committee, as well as use my talents and skill sets to build clubs and organizations in the school, such as the yearbook committee and the cheerleading team. As a grade team leader, I am given the privilege of leading a group of 10 passionate educators and working alongside building and network level leaders to make important decisions about our school. These decisions include initiatives that drive both staff and student culture and achievement. During the 2017-2018 school year, I worked as the 9th-grade Literature teacher. My main responsibilities were to create and deliver lessons that reflected my students culturally, developmentally, and academically while pushing them to master standards outlined by Common Core by the end of the year. At the beginning of the school year, 40% of the 9th grade cohort were considered proficient readers. By the end of the year, 80% earned reading proficiency. Currently, I am the 9th Grade Writing teacher. My responsibility is to provide students with opportunities to develop their skill as authors through writing authentically. Additionally, I have written curriculum that intertwines both inquiry, workshop-based writing instruction, along with explicit writing instruction.  I am trained in the Hochman method of teaching writing.

- Collected and analyzed quantitative and qualitative data from more than 2000 corps members-Led Hometown Press Initiative, a communications campaign aimed at gaining positive coverage for the organization-Drafted dozens of press releases and generated more than 42 positive pieces; an increase of 40 percent from the year before-Monitored contact with dozens of editors, fostering positive relationships with newspapers nationwide

- Co-led the Intern Class Gift campaign, which raised more than $50,000 and generated 98 percent participation from intern class -Assumed the role as speaker at 2 events and presented to an audience of more than 300 young professionals-Collaborated with a team of 12 others to research and evaluate 13 nonprofits for consideration as grant recipients-Created and edited video used at presentations
