MULXIPLY, pronounced "multiply," produces a modern collection of apparel, accessories, and hand-felted gifts.1 The brand collaborates with 6 artisan groups in the Kathmandu Valley, specializing in various handicrafts such as textiles, leather, and metalwork.13 MULXIPLY pays above fair wages to 29 people annually, with additional seasonal help from women working from home in villages around the Kathmandu Valley.3
Tanja's approach combines her experience in the fashion industry and the western marketplace with the skills of artisans who need work, creating dignified employment opportunities and combating poverty.12 The brand has a niche in the fair trade sector, utilizing ancient processes to create contemporary designs that appeal to modern minimalists.13
In addition to running MULXIPLY, Tanja shares a retail space with another women-owned business, Campfire Pottery, in Portland's East End.3
