Syd Hyett is a community-minded individual who has contributed to many causes throughout his life. He is an active member of St Paul's Catholic Parish in Camden, where he serves as an Acolyte and sits on the Parish Council. Syd also completed a 2-year Liturgy course with the Wollongong Diocese. Along with his parish work, he is a tireless volunteer for many other causes. Syd has been a member of Lions Clubs International for 35 years, where he served for 20 years on the District Cabinet. Before that, he was a member of the St John Ambulance Brigade for 22 years, where he received their long service medal and bar and was made a Member of the Order of St John for services rendered.

Throughout his life, Syd has held various jobs, starting in the electrical field, doing his trade on the Railways, and following this up by being the only qualified trades person in the field for Malleys Ltd (Stove technician). After Malleys, he formed his own Stove Repair business called Macquarie Range Repairs and contracted to the Housing Commission for a number of years. Syd's next business venture was A Culinary Affair, where he catered for many events around Sydney, including a 2-year stint at the Campbelltown Tennis Club. After catering, he went to work in the Poker Machine Business and eventually the TAB.

Despite being retrenched twice in his later years, Syd continued to work in Transport Management for a short time before finally retiring in 2010.

Syd's diverse community involvement demonstrates his passion for helping others. He is a Christmas in Narellan committee member, an annual event at Narellan Town Centre, as well as assisting with the organizing of events in and around Camden and Ingleburn.
