Suzanne Tyson is the founder and CEO of Higher Ed Points Inc., a company that enables students, parents, and donors to convert loyalty points into payments for higher education fees and student loan repayments.12 She launched Higher Ed Points in November 2013, combining her career experience in college publishing, mobile technology, loyalty programs, and student funding.1
Tyson's innovative concept allows students to use existing loyalty points from friends or family to pay off school tuition at most major universities and colleges in Canada.2 Since its inception, Higher Ed Points has converted 200 million loyalty points into $1.5 million in educational funding, making it the largest source of private sector educational funding available to everyone.2
Prior to founding Higher Ed Points, Tyson worked in various fields, including selling textbooks on campuses and in the loyalty card industry.2 Her diverse experience led her to recognize the potential of unused loyalty points as a source of funding for education.2
In 2017, Tyson was recognized as a Canada SheEO venture winner, highlighting Higher Ed Points as one of the best Canadian ideas that year.2 She has faced challenges as a female entrepreneur in male-dominated industries but remains passionate about her work in helping students access alternative funding for their education.2
Recently, in February 2024, Tyson announced that she had led HigherEdPoints as its Founder and CEO for 8 years, during which time the company expanded to include partnerships with Aeroplan, TD Rewards, AMEX Membership Rewards, and CIBC.3
