Steven Sarauer

Steven Sarauer is the Hockey Director at The Winter Club of Lake Forest and the Lake Forest High School Hockey Director and Head Varsity Coach.12 He has extensive experience in youth hockey, both as a player and a coach.

Sarauer grew up playing youth hockey in West Bend, Wisconsin, and later played Midget AAA hockey in Milwaukee.1 His playing career included an invitation to the Phoenix Coyotes rookie camp in 2002, though a knee injury sidelined him.1 He then played hockey for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee while pursuing his education.1

Sarauer's coaching career began during his college years, working with Wisconsin AAA teams and the Pettit High School team in Milwaukee.1 After graduation, he coached in Barrington, Illinois, serving as the Assistant Hockey Director for the Barrington Redwings and the Barrington Broncos High School program.1 He also directed the Lake Zurich High School hockey program, transforming it from a struggling single-team program into a successful three-school co-op.1

At Lake Forest High School, Sarauer has been the Hockey Director and Head Varsity Coach for several seasons, leading the Varsity team to win the IHSHL Varsity division league championship in his first season.12 Under his leadership, the Varsity team has consistently ranked in the top 15 of the state's Varsity programs.1

Sarauer took over as Hockey Director at the Winter Club in November (likely 2022 or 2023), which has positively impacted the High School program.12 His professional experience spans nearly twelve years in youth sports, recreation, management, and operations.3
