Steve Coleman is a well-known personality in the field of urban parks and community-led revitalization. A member of the National Board of Directors of the National Recreation and Park Association, Steve has served as the Chair of Parks for Life at the International Urban Parks & Green Space Alliance (now World Urban Parks) for nearly a decade. With an illustrious career spanning several decades, Steve has worked with numerous organizations like Washington Parks & People, S.W. Coleman Consulting, International Center for Journalists, and Better World Society.
Steve is a respected figure in the field, having been a part of many organizational boards and committees. He has held the position of Co-Chair at the DC Mayoral Transition Committee on Parks and Recreation for the last three mayors. He has also served as a Trustee at the City Parks Alliance and the Vice-Chair of the Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners Assembly, among others. In addition to his work in the non-profit sector, Steve has also worked in journalism, having interned as a reporter at MacNeil Lehrer Report (now the PBS NewsHour) and as a Director of Program Development at Better World Society.
Steve is a sought-after teacher, speaker, and consultant in the areas of urban greening and community-led revitalization, sharing his expertise and knowledge to help communities develop urban parks and green spaces. He also co-founded the Josephine Butler Parks Center and the Riverside Center, both of which focus on creating sustainable and resilient communities.
Steve is a graduate of Westtown School, Haverford College, and New York University. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Charles Elliot Warren Award for Outstanding Service to Parks and the Community.
