Stephanie Silvera
Professor at Montclair State University
Stephanie A. N. Silvera is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health at Montclair State University. She also serves as the Acting Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs in the College for Community Health. Dr. Silvera holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Nutritional Sciences from Rutgers University, completed in 2001, and earned her PhD in Epidemiology from Yale University School of Public Health in 2004.12
Her research primarily focuses on racial and ethnic disparities in access to health services and health outcomes. Dr. Silvera has extensive training in research methodology and teaches courses related to epidemiology, research methods, and structural inequalities in health. She is recognized for her work on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on disenfranchised communities, translating complex epidemiological information for broader understanding.123
In addition to her teaching and research roles, Dr. Silvera is a member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Roundtable on Obesity Solutions, highlighting her involvement in significant public health discussions.13 Her scholarly contributions include various peer-reviewed articles addressing cancer prevention behaviors among different racial and ethnic groups, emphasizing the need for equitable access to health resources.2
