Steffen Kastner

Steffen Kastner is a former managing director of Goldman Sachs where he co-headed the Merchant Bank's credit investing business in Europe.1 He joined Goldman Sachs in 1994 in the Investment Banking division, working in mergers & acquisitions and leverage finance at the firm's New York and Frankfurt offices.1 Kastner retired from Goldman Sachs in 2014.1
During his time at Goldman Sachs, Kastner worked on and led numerous successful private equity and debt transactions, including the buy-outs of Wincor Nixdorf and Kabel Deutschland, as well as large credit investments in companies such as Brenntag, Com Hem, ConvaTec, Gambro, Molnlycke, and Springer Science.1
Prior to his career at Goldman Sachs, Kastner was a research fellow at the International Monetary Fund in Washington D.C. and at Harvard University, and also worked in the economics department of Deutsche Bank.1 He holds a PhD in economics from Johannes Gutenberg University and a master's degree in business administration (Diplom-Kaufmann) from WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management.1
Since 2014, Kastner has focused on independent projects in fund management, venture capital, and M&A, specializing in renewable energy, medtech, fintech, and alternative credit.2
