Siamak Yousefi

Dr. Siamak Yousefi is an Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis, leading the Data Mining and Machine Learning (DM2L) laboratory focusing on developing cutting-edge learning models for detecting various eye conditions from ocular imaging data.
With a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Dallas and a background in Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science, Dr. Yousefi has extensive knowledge in vision and ophthalmology. He has completed postdoctoral training at prestigious institutions like the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and the University of California San Diego (UCSD). He also held positions as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo and as a Research Scientist at UCSD.
Dr. Yousefi has a prolific publication record, with over 100 peer-reviewed articles and papers, including contributions in esteemed journals such as Ophthalmology, JAMA Ophthalmology, and PLOS One. He is an Editorial Board Member of the TVST journal and has been actively involved in various Ophthalmology conferences and organizations globally.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Yousefi has secured significant grant funding exceeding $1.1 million from NIH/NEI and Bright Focus to advance AI models in vision and ophthalmology. He is a sought-after speaker, having presented at numerous international venues, and has contributed significantly to the field through his research and educational efforts.
Dr. Yousefi's laboratory is at the forefront of research in deep learning, manifold learning, conventional machine learning, unsupervised machine learning, and statistical learning to tackle eye conditions like Glaucoma, AMD, Keratoconus, Keratoplasty, and Uveitis. The lab welcomes talented researchers in fields such as machine learning, deep learning, biostatistics, ophthalmology, glaucoma, retina, and cornea research.
