    Hearing, "Perplexity has ads!" is going to piss people off because the whole appeal of Perplexity is 'unbiased, direct answers.'

    BUT: Perplexity has signposted this for two months now. There's a techcrunch article about it, and the team has a blog post explaining their rationale.

    My strong take (until someone convinces me otherwise):

    Ads aren't inherently bad. They've financed the free internet for decades, in exchange for your attention- which for most of the population, is a better deal than dollars.

    When executed well, ads connect people to products. This is good. The issue is when they're executed poorly and interfere with the core experience.

    I think Perplexity's team is doing the right thing by limiting ad real estate to the follow-up suggestions instead of the main answer, they just needed to be more vocal and firm about this principle.

    If I were them, I'd make this stance public and clear, instead of letting people jump to conclusions and lose trust.

    I'm also curious about how well these ads convert... I assume they're not great, given how leading and obvious the copy is

    1. 💚 the thesis: browser-level primitives → ux that ingrains habits & retains people longterm. I wanna understand what the unlocks are vs a Chrome extension, besides distribution.

    2. spotted a "demonstrate" button in the vid. This has the highest potential, imo. a. known pattern for delegating to someone b. helps tackle people's unique needs c. feedback loop to improve the assistant later on.

    3. (still) don't think the ideal user is my mom/dad. I think it's the same folks that use Arc. Hope I'm wrong :)
