Shimrit Perkol-Finkel

Shimrit Perkol-Finkel is a distinguished innovator, scientist, entrepreneur, wife, and mother of three with over 20 years of experience in ecological engineering, sustainability, and the environment.
She specializes in eco-design, evaluation, and monitoring of man-made habitats, with a focus on reducing the ecological footprint of coastal and marine infrastructure like breakwaters and seawalls.
Shimrit has extensive technical expertise in sustainable management of urban marine structures, conservation and rehabilitation, planning monitoring programs, and small-scale hydrodynamic processes on man-made substrata.
Her practical experience includes developing cultivation and transplantation techniques, conducting lab and field research on corals, algae, and invertebrates, particularly stony and soft coral species.
She has conducted fieldwork in 30 countries, collecting data, performing experiments, and leading research expeditions.
Shimrit holds a B.Sc. in Life Sciences, M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Zoology, all from Tel-Aviv University.
She was a Marie Curie Fellow and led the EU-funded MarUrbe project focusing on sustainable management of urban marine structures.
Shimrit has been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2018 UN We Empower award, the 2019 EU Women Innovators award, and being named in the Forbes' lists of Women Led Companies in Tech and Most Creative Business People in 2019.
She has studied at various institutions including the Inter University Institute Eilat, Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, and Tel-Aviv University.
Shimrit has held key roles in organizations such as ECOncrete, where she served as CEO & Chief Scientist and Late CEO & Co-Founder, as well as working as a Research Project Associate at Tel Aviv University and as a Principal at SeArc - Ecological marine consulting.
