    Why we seeded @merge:

It could be the last company humanity ever needs to build.

Founded by @sama, @alexblania, @SumnerLN, and other legends, Merge's goal is to bridge biological and artificial intelligence via brain computer interfaces.

For millions of years, humans have been building tools to extend ourselves and our capabilities.

The wheel to extend our legs. Language to extend our minds. Levers to extend our strength. Computers to extend our memory and imagination.

Merge could be the culmination of that effort. By allowing us to integrate directly with technology, it could become the final bridge between humans and machines.

The team is wildly talented and pursuing a fundamentally new approach. They're engineering both BCI devices and biology to radically improve the interface between them. Think proteins fusing with neurons so the neurons better interface with ultrasound. This should allow them to increase the bandwidth and brain coverage of BCIs by several orders of magnitude while making them much less invasive.

There are a ton of hard technical problems to solve here, but this is exactly the kind of effort worth spending decades on.

More from the estimable @ashleevance / @corememory and the Merge team below.
