Sarah Kalemkerian

Senior Director of Alternative Certification and Extensions Programs at NYC Department of Education

Sarah Kalemkerian is a seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience in the public and nonprofit sectors. She has a Master's in Public Administration from The George Washington University and a Bachelor's in Sociology from Rutgers University. With a well-rounded background, Kalemkerian has significant expertise in recruitment, organizational development, performance management, program management, and youth development.

She is the Director of Alternative Certification Programs at the NYC Department of Education, where she manages and implement programs that certify educators who have not gone through a traditional teacher preparation program. Previously, Kalemkerian was the Senior Teacher Recruitment Manager and the Teacher Recruitment Manager in the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality at the NYC Department of Education. She was also the Program Manager for Organizational Performance in the Office of Special Education, and the Program Coordinator for the Office of Special Education at the District of Columbia Public Schools.

Kalemkerian's interests are in developing programs that increase access to quality education for all students, especially those in underserved communities. Before working in education, Kalemkerian was a Capital City Fellow at the Government of the District of Columbia and Summer Coordinator at DC Alliance of Youth Advocates. She also worked as a Human Resources Coordinator at Sierra Club.
