    Professor of Music at CSUN

    Ronald M. Borczon, MT-BC, is an accomplished music therapist who founded the Music Therapy Department at California State University, Northridge in 1984.

    With over 25 years of experience as the director of the program, he is a leading figure in the field of music therapy in California.

    Apart from his role at CSUN, Borczon also teaches classical guitar at the university.

    His educational background includes a Master of Music degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis on performance from Florida State University.

    Ron Borczon has a wealth of clinical experience in music therapy, spanning over 30 years, working with diverse populations including psychiatric patients, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, those with autism, posttraumatic stress disorder, and substance abuse cases.

    As a past president of the National Association of Music Therapy, Western Region, Borczon has made significant contributions to the field through presentations at national and regional conferences.

    He received the Presidential Award from the National Association for Music Therapy in 1994 for his innovative work following the Northridge Earthquake, providing music therapy to school children affected by the disaster.

    In 1995, he conducted a workshop on Music Therapy and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder for therapists in Oklahoma City after the bombing, showcasing his expertise in trauma intervention through music.

    Borczon has also been involved in planning music therapy interventions for communities affected by tragedies like the Columbine High School and Santee High School shootings, highlighting his commitment to using music as a tool for healing in the wake of mass disasters.
