Robert Tilton
Professor at Carnegie Mellon University
Robert Tilton is a Chevron Professor of Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, holding a joint appointment in the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Biomedical Engineering since 1992.13 He earned his B.Ch.E. from the University of Delaware in 1986, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University in 1987 and 1991, respectively.1
Professor Tilton's research focuses on complex fluid interfacial phenomena, investigating macromolecules, surfactants, and composite nanoparticles in suspension or adsorbed at solid or fluid interfaces.2 His work has applications in environmental nanotechnology, aerosolized carriers for pulmonary drug delivery, lubrication, and high-efficiency emulsifiers.2
Tilton is a Fellow of the American Chemical Society and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.1 He has served on the NIH Nanotechnology Study Section and held leadership positions in the American Chemical Society Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry.1
His research has been widely recognized, with over 12,000 citations to his work.4 Tilton has received several awards, including the NSF Career Award and the Victor K. La Mer Award for Outstanding Graduate Research in Colloid and Surface Chemistry.1
