Reporting directly to the global CTO, I ran all open source strategy and acted as an advisor to the line of business product teams, field teams, marketing teams, leadership, and customers.  My job was to act as a change agent, challenging assumptions, driving organizational alignment, educating, and generally leading the charge on everything open source.Major accomplishments:- Identify the challenges between OpenContrail and commercial Contrail- Create and deliver a new "open core" based strategy for OpenContrail- Drove organizational alignment around moving to the new "open core" business model - Organize a "reboot" of the OpenContrail community to convert from Juniper-led to community-led- Hired an open source community liaison to drive the reboot- Led Juniper's membership to the Linux Foundation Networking (LFN) and Linux Foundation Edge (LFE) foundations- Founding member of both LFN and LFE- Led rebranding of OpenContrail to Tungsten Fabric (TF) and subsequent contribution of TF to the LFN- Drove the formal induction process of Tungsten Fabric into LFN- Created requirements & drove the creation of Tungsten Carbide, a cloud-based "quick start" evaluation system for TF that spins up a Kubernetes cluster with TF+CNI in 15 minutes- Hired an open source strategy expert to assist in cleaning up and streamlining all Juniper inbound/outbound OSS contributions in coordination with legal, marketing, and product teams- Grew TF community; elected as Technical Steering Committee (TSC) chair- Represented TF in adjacent communities such as LFE, AECC, Akraino- Gave expert talks on open source to strategic customers such as Deutsche Telekom (DT)- Represented Juniper with analysts & reporters- Managed team of 12 remote developers dedicated to upstream open source development- Led the launch of a new open source universal data plane initiative based on eBPF+XDP that included founding members of Juniper, Intel, RedHat, and other

As a part of the Emerging Technologies Division (ETD) I act in a CTO-like role as an internal and external advisor to the line of business product teams, the ETD leadership, and the office of the CTO (OCTO).  The Emerging Technologies Division's job is to disrupt EMC's mainstay products in the Core Technologies Division.  My jobs is to disrupt ETD, challenging assumptions, driving organizational alignment, educating, and generally leading the charge on all things new.I engage across the EMC Federation with VMware, Pivotal, RSA, and VCE.  Broadly speaking I have three focus areas:- open source software (including, but not limited to OpenStack)- general cloud computing (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and all related technologies)- converged infrastructure (CI, hyperconverged, appliances)This last is where Cloudscaling's technology sits and I spend 20-30% of my time continuing to support the Cloudscalers, but I am also working very broadly now.Major accomplishments while here:- Open sourcing of EMC's first open source product ever: Project CoprHD (coprhd.github.io), which is based off of ViPR Controller, the world's #1 software-defined-storage (SDS) controller.  Presented the announcement of CoprHD on-stage at EMC World 2015.  Video is attached and my part can be found at 29 minutes.- Ran small engineering/R&D team that worked on OpenStack integration work for EMC products such as ScaleIO and ECS with key OpenStack partners.  Result was turnkey installation of these products with Mirantis OpenStack, Canonical OpenStack, and RedHat OpenStack, which in turn led to greater OpenStack-related sales- Pivotal in strategic sales conversations that led to major ScaleIO and ECS deals.

I act as an advisor to Docker, Inc.  Docker launched as "dotCloud" originally in 2011 as the industry’s first multi-language Platform as a Service. In 2013, recognizing the need for flexible, PaaS-like environments inside enterprises and across clouds, dotCloud released much of its technology as the open source Docker project. I have the honor of representing the OpenStack community on the OpenStack Foundation board of directors.  I was elected as an inaugural Director of the newly formed OpenStack Foundation in 2012 and re-elected to the board in 2013 and 2014.OpenStack is a global collaboration of developers and cloud computing technologists producing the ubiquitous open source cloud computing platform for public and private clouds. The project aims to deliver solutions for all types of clouds by being simple to implement, massively scalable, and feature rich. The OpenStack Foundation is an independent body providing shared resources to help achieve the OpenStack Mission by Protecting, Empowering, and Promoting OpenStack software and the community around it, including users, developers and the entire ecosystem.As one of the leaders in the OpenStack community my efforts have have led to a renewed interest in OpenStack hybridized with non-OpenStack public clouds (AWS, Google Compute Engine), to the direct formation of the OpenStack Product Working Group (Product WG), and resulted in some of the earliest and most visible OpenStack deployments.

kozoru is dedicated to bringing to life next generation search technology that provides specific targeted answers to posed questions.As one of the first two employees and one of the initial founding members, I worked closely with the kozoru founder and CEO on all aspects of product development and management.   My role at kozoru included not only facilitating the work of the developers, architects, linguists, and ontologists, but also maintaining the product roadmap, working hand in hand with sales & marketing, maintaining investor relationships, and acting as the overall product guru.  Eventually as timelines and deadlines became more stringent, became very hands on with the operational, QA, and product development.  Built the initial v1.0 FreeBSD-based search appliances.

Grand Central Communications was initially a B2B web services integration platform servicing Fortune 500 organizations.  It was started by Halsey Minor (CNet) and eventually re-constituted into a new unrelated business focused on voice solutions.Responsible for all strategic and technical aspects of security across the business, coupled with ongoing product security from implementation, through development, to deployment. Extensive input to product development team on key product security features.  Highlighting both GC’s product security features and our internal security controls with our executive team enhanced key account sales and marketing collateral.  Successfully passed security audits of several Fortune 100 companies including GE and Wachovia, which resulted in major sales wins.Primary author of our code deployment tool, GIZMO, which used automation to dramatically reduce live site deployment times.

It was listed on the NASDAQ in August 2000.Developed initial Pro Services unit business plan, presented to executive management, and was given full support.  P&L responsibility for first year included revenue targets of $4.5 million.  Built and managed a 15+ consultant pre/post sales proserv organization across 5 countries:  Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, and the U.S.  Major accounts included Sony, Proctor & Gamble, AT&T, Adecco, OOCL, Double Click, and Hyundai.Previously, while running the network security department, designed and deployed the first managed vulnerability scanning service based on nCircle technology.  This complemented our managed security service offerings.
