Premkumar Heigrujam hails from a remote village in Manipur and comes from a background where education was not a priority. Despite the challenges, he excelled in his studies and emerged as the sole student to pass matriculation from his village school.
Facing financial constraints, Premkumar moved to Imphal, Manipur, where he pursued his education with determination. His hard work paid off as he topped the State Plus Two final examination in the Arts stream in 2008.
With the assistance of the government, Premkumar pursued his undergraduate studies in Political Science at Ramjas College, Delhi University. He later gained admission to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, where he completed his Masters in Political Science.
Premkumar's academic achievements include qualifying the UGC NET-JRF examination and pursuing M. Phil. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in the Department of Political Science at Manipur University, focusing on citizenship, identity, nation, nationalism, and democracy in North-East India.
Having faced numerous challenges and sacrifices along the way, Premkumar remains dedicated to his twin goals of scholarly research on pertinent sociopolitical issues and advocating for quality education for underprivileged children, particularly in North-East India.
His educational journey includes prestigious experiences such as participating in Bergen Exchanges 2020 program at the Centre on Law and Social Transformation in Bergen, Norway, and the Bergen Summer Research School at the University of Bergen (UiB).
Premkumar's professional background also includes a role as a former Field Investigator at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, showcasing his commitment to research and academia.
Through determination and resilience, Premkumar is striving to make a meaningful impact in the realms of education and social change, embodying the spirit of perseverance and dedication to his academic pursuits.
