Pietro Buttitta is an accomplished winemaker, chef, and owner of Prima Materia Winery in California. His passion for wine and culinary arts began with his studies at the Western Culinary Institute and Portland State University, where he delved into the history and philosophy behind these fields. After completing his education, Pietro worked in various roles in the culinary industry, from leading lines at Ristorante Fratelli to executive chef at San Francisco event venues. It wasn't until he started his own winery, Prima Materia, that he found his true calling, crafting unique and uncommon wines with minimal equipment and a focus on traditional grape growing and winemaking methods. Pietro's expertise and experience as a former certified sommelier and winemaker, viticulturist, and chef, make him a respected figure in the wine industry, and his involvement in various organizations, including Lake County Wine Competition, Archestratus Consulting, and Road Scholars, further cements his reputation as an expert in his field. Today, you can find Pietro at Prima Materia's tasting room located in the heart of Oakland, where he shares his passion for wine with others, always ready to share a story or two about the history of the vineyards and winemaking techniques used in crafting his unique wines.
