Peter Coffin
President at Breckinridge Capital Advisors
Peter Coffin is the President and Founder of Breckinridge Capital Advisors, a Boston-based investment management firm specializing in fixed income, with over $47 billion in assets under management. With more than 40 years of experience in the investment industry, Coffin established Breckinridge in 1993 after serving as a Senior Vice President at Massachusetts Financial Services (MFS), where he managed municipal bond portfolios and was part of the Fixed Income Policy Committee.13
Coffin began his career as an analyst in the Bond and Money Market group at Connecticut National Bank and later worked in Aetna’s Bond Investment division. He holds a B.A. with honors in classical studies from Hamilton College, where he is also a member of the Board of Trustees.1
In addition to his role at Breckinridge, Coffin is involved in various organizations:
- Chair of The Trustees of Reservations, the oldest preservation organization in the U.S.
- President of the Frontier Nursing University Foundation, which supports a graduate school of nursing.
- Member of the Investor Advisory Group for the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and the President’s Council for Ceres.1
Coffin is recognized for his commitment to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors into investment strategies and often speaks at conferences about fixed income portfolio management and sustainable investing. He is set to retire on June 30, 2024, transitioning to the role of executive chair while Oggie Sosa will take over as CEO.23
