Pedro Cruz
Assistant Professor at Northeastern University
Pedro Cruz is a highly accomplished individual with a diverse background in academia and professional experiences. He embarked on his academic journey studying Physics Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon before transitioning to Informatics Engineering at the University of Coimbra. During his time in Coimbra, Cruz delved into collaborative work in communication design at FBA, focusing on motion and interactive installations. His international experience includes an internship at the creative studio 3bits in Brazil, where he honed skills in web and interaction design. Cruz's academic pursuits led him to complete his master's thesis in information visualization and aesthetics in Coimbra.
From 2010 to 2011, Cruz served as an invited assistant professor in Design and Multimedia courses at the University of Coimbra, concurrently contributing as a researcher at CISUC (Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra). He is currently a PhD student in the Doctoral Program for Information Science and Technology at the same university. Cruz has also ventured abroad, where he spent time as a PhD visiting student at the MIT Senseable City Lab in Cambridge, MA, and as a research assistant at SMART (Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology) in Singapore, engaged in the LIVE Singapore! project.
With expertise in information visualization, information aesthetics, interaction design, information design, social web, generative design, and computational art, Pedro Cruz's skill set is dynamic and specialized. His educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Information Science and Technology from Universidade de Coimbra, an MSc in Informatics Engineering from the same institution, a BSc in Computer Science from Centro Universitário de Belo Horizonte, and a BSc in Physics Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico.
Cruz has held various roles in prestigious organizations, including Assistant Professor (tenure-track) at Northeastern University, with prior positions as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the same institution and a Part-time Professor at Porto Business School.
