Patricia Gautrin
Researcher at AlgoraLab - Ph.D. candidate AI Ethics - AI Ethics Journalist
Patricia Gautrin is a researcher at AlgoraLab and a PhD candidate specializing in AI ethics at the University of Montreal, under the supervision of Marc-Antoine Dilhac.1 She is affiliated with Mila, the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, where AlgoraLab is an interdisciplinary academic laboratory focused on developing deliberative ethics of AI and analyzing societal and political aspects of the emerging algorithmic society.1
Her thesis project focuses on analyzing the conditions of possibility for moral learning in machines, specifically the learning of virtues.1 Gautrin has worked on significant research projects for the government, particularly in sustainable finance and the role of AI in ecological transition.1 She is also involved in a project to operationalize EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) principles.1

Gautrin is fluent in English and Spanish and has experience training researchers in ethical deliberation workshops.1 She is also the author of an essay on AI ethics titled "PAUSE — Why AI needs Ethics".13
