Building the minds of thinking machines
Nigel Greenwood is a distinguished mathematician with a strong background in evolutionary machine learning and artificial intelligence. He holds multiple patents in the field and has led various AI startups in medicine and engineering. Nigel achieved first-class honors in pure mathematics in 1989 and completed his PhD in applied mathematics at the University of Queensland, specializing in differential game theory at the young age of 26. His research focused on developing control architectures for complex systems using Lyapunov stability methods under uncertainty and conflict.
Nigel's work has diverse applications ranging from drug-based medical control for complex biological systems such as diabetes to evolutionary reconstruction of computational models in aerospace engineering. His specialties include artificial intelligence, data mining, differential game theory, advanced guidance and control systems, nonlinear identification, model-reference adaptive control, complex systems, and high-performance parallel computing. In addition, Nigel has a keen interest in Westminster constitutional history, political philosophy, and constitutional law spanning from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
Throughout his career, Nigel has held key positions in various organizations, including Founder/CEO/Chief Scientific Officer at Turbine MachineGenes Pty Ltd, Evolving Machine Intelligence Pty Ltd, and Diabetes Neuromathix Pty Ltd among others. He served as the Team Leader for Team MachineGenes in the IBM Watson AI XPRIZE competition. Furthermore, Nigel has contributed to academia as an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Queensland and held roles in research and teaching at prestigious institutions such as Merton College, Oxford, and the University of Queensland.
