Nick Soman is the Founder and CEO of Decent, a company that offers affordable health insurance plans for small businesses. He was inspired to start Decent after a near-death experience with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological disorder that left him paralyzed in his 30s.14

Soman comes from a family of primary care doctors, but decided not to pursue medicine himself after witnessing the challenges his parents faced with insurance companies while treating patients.14 He wanted to make healthcare more affordable and accessible, especially for small businesses and entrepreneurs who have been hit hard by rising insurance costs.3

Prior to founding Decent in 2018, Soman had a diverse career in tech and entrepreneurship2:

Soman holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor's degree from Stanford University.2 He is passionate about aligning incentives in healthcare to improve outcomes, reduce costs, and put patients first.3

Under Soman's leadership, Decent has raised over $50 million in funding4 and offers health plans that are up to 40% less expensive than market rates for small businesses.3 The company has a Net Promoter Score of 79, far exceeding the industry average of 14.3
