Senior Lecturer, Computing and Information Systems

Nic Geard is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Computing and Information Systems at The University of Melbourne. Previously, he served as an ARC DECRA Fellow at the Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, specializing in computational models of infectious disease transmission and control. With a background working with Prof Seth Bullock at the University of Southampton, he earned his BSc and PhD in computer science from the University of Queensland. His research explores individual-based models of infectious diseases like influenza, whooping cough, and Ebola, emphasizing the impact of demographic, behavioral, and pathogenic variations on disease spread and control strategies. Nic Geard is actively involved as a CI in the National Health & Medical Research Council Centre of Research Excellence on Policy-Relevant Infectious Disease Simulation and Mathematical Modelling, and demonstrates a broader interest in applying computational simulation models to analyze complex biological, social, and artificial systems.
