Neeraj Khemlani Exits CBS News, Signs Multi-Year First-Look Deal
Neeraj Khemlani, the president and co-head of CBS News and CBS Television Stations, has announced his departure from the company after a two-year tenure.1234 Khemlani will be moving on to a new chapter with a multiyear, multiplatform first-look deal with CBS to develop content like documentaries, scripted series and books for Simon & Schuster.14
During his time as CBS News chief, Khemlani helped transform the division in several key ways123:
- Built what he called "the best morning show in the history of CBS News"
- Reimagined the CBS News streaming channel
- Invested in the reporting ranks and the D.C. bureau, including the Evening News, to position the network for excellence in the 2024 presidential election
- Maintained the #1 position of iconic weekend programs
- Developed and launched business plans to grow digital revenue to sustain CBS News for the next generation
- Elevated and promoted many CBS News staffers
CBS CEO George Cheeks praised Khemlani's leadership, stating he "will leave CBS News with our broadcasts stronger and our streaming footprint bigger and better" and that the "talent he recruited to the division the past few years is best in class."4
Khemlani joined CBS News in 2021 after stints at Hearst Corporation and Yahoo. He previously worked as a producer for 60 Minutes.24 His departure marks the latest in a series of high-profile exits among top TV news executives in recent years.2
