Natalie McKnight
Natalie McKnight is the Dean of the College of General Studies (CGS) at Boston University. She has a BA in English and Drama from Washington College, an MA in The Writing Seminars from Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD in English and American Literature from the University of Delaware.12
As Dean, McKnight oversees the CGS program, which provides students with a two-year, integrated, interdisciplinary curriculum that fulfills most BU Hub general education requirements. The program aims to give students a strong foundation in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and rhetoric.2
McKnight's research interests include Victorian studies, gender studies, and general education. She has published several books on Victorian fiction, including Idiots, Madmen and Other Prisoners in Dickens, Suffering Mothers in Mid-Victorian Novels, and Fathers in Victorian Fiction. She is also the Co-Editor of Dickens Studies Annual.13
Prior to becoming Dean, McKnight chaired the Humanities Division at CGS for 14 years and served as Associate Dean and Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Teaching & Learning for two years.2 She was named interim Dean of CGS in 2014 by President Robert A. Brown and Provost Jean Morrison.4
McKnight has received several awards for her work, including the Scholar/Teacher of the Year Award from Boston University in 1998-99.1 She is active in professional organizations, serving as President of the Dickens Society.1
